God does not change: He is still the same!

“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.” Hebrews 13:8

Good day,

I was just resting and like most people I began reflecting. I initially thought the previous year was extremely hard but after genuinely introspecting, I realized that the Lord has kept me. I do not take away the ups and downs but despite everything, I was preserved, as well as spared and so were many of us. The things we did not think we would come out of alive; we overcame. The dark tunnels some of us found ourselves within, we either passed through and managed to get out or we finally began to see the end thereof (Light at the end of the tunnel). Yes, some of us are still within the storms, but even then, God is keeping us.

Introspecting just made me grateful for / to the Lord, for had He not been by our side, the enemy would have indeed swallowed us. We would not be here or have some sense of sanity. We are alive, sane, sober, intact by the grace of the Living God.

As I thought about the year that was, I found myself praying and expressing gratitude to God. As I did so, the Lord reminded me of something incredible; He reminded me that He is God and He does not change. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He reminded me that He is the same God today that was in biblical times. Just take a moment and think about that (personally, this is a selah moment). You see, our God,

  • Created all things in 6 days and rested on the 7th day.
  • Called Noah and instructed him to build an Ark, and saw them through the rain, the flood, and the replenishment of the world.
  • Called Abraham from his father’s house and made a covenant with him that will culminate in the birth of Israel.
  • Preserved Moses from birth, spoke to him face to face, and called him to lead Israel out of Egypt, as well as through the wilderness.
  • Led and ruled over the children of Israel; furthermore, He fed them and preserved their clothes in the wilderness.
  • Called great men and women unto Himself, as well as ordained them for the work of the Kingdom.
  • Forgave Israel its sins.
  • Won wars for Israel.
  • Gave Moses and David the blueprints of the tabernacles.
  • Shut the mouths of lions in the den where Daniel was cast.
  • Preserved Esther’s life when she presented herself to the king without an invitation.
  • Empowered and enabled Gideon.
  • Gave Solomon wisdom.
  • Caused Isaiah to prophesy the coming of the Messiah.
  • Caused a star to appear at the birth of the Messiah as a sign.
  • Sent John to prepare the way for the coming of Jesus Christ.
  • Redeemed Saul (Paul) and purposed him.
  • Sent Philip to the Ethiopian Eunuch to explain the Word, Ananias to Saul and Peter to Cornelius.
  • Healed the sick, raised the dead, restored the blind / disfigured, etc.

A mighty and wonderful God He is. I am in awe: the God that met Moses at the entrance of the tent of meeting / congregation is the same God that I have the privilege of communing with. The God that was with Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego in the fire is with me through every season of my life. How wonderful is that? I am extremely excited that the Living God / Ancient of Days / the King of Glory / Everlasting Father / Lord, strong and mighty  is my Father, Companion, Lord, and King. How incredible is that? As I think of the Lord, at this very moment, I am reminded of Psalms 8 and 24. We belong to an amazing God whose love for us transcends everything we know.

I just want to expressly emphasize this, and I pray that it reverberates in our hearts and minds: we serve and speak to the same God as the incredible people we read about in the Word. Who God was to those in biblical times is exactly who He is to us, today. I just want to remind us that God is still God. He is just as able today as He was then, to do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we can think of or imagine. There is nothing He cannot do. As we journey through this year, let us have faith in the God we serve. Let us pursue Him with all that we are. Let us learn from our mistakes and decisions, especially in instances where we lost sight of Him, as well as Who He is and what He can do.

If God could speak to Moses, Saul, Jeremiah, Noah, Abraham, etc., nothing prevents Him from speaking to you. If He could cause Sarah, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Rachel, Hannah, etc. to fall pregnant after being barren, so can He do for you. Let us take a moment and look at the life of Joseph: God opened up Rachel’s womb and she bore Joseph. He was sold to the Midianites and then to Potiphar, whose wife tried to seduce him but failed. He was subsequently falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife of attempted rape and imprisoned. Through all of that, the Lord was with Him; in fact, the Lord favoured him. Also, every place that Joseph found himself was particularly different because of his presence; they could tell that Joseph was different.

Potiphar prospered because of Joseph; the warden paid no attention to things in prison because Joseph was in charge and he succeeded at everything; pharaoh and Egypt thrived because of Joseph’s leadership, etc. If God can preserve Joseph’s life and lift him up to positions of authority and influence, He can also do it for you. If God can restore Job and the leper that returned to express gratitude, He can also restore you. If God can provide for the widows, He can provide for you. If God can heal the woman with the issue of blood, the 10 lepers, the blind men, etc. He can certainly heal you. He is God and will forever be, may we be assured of this truth.

I pray that we come to a place where we utterly understand that God is still for us and with us. Remember, The Lord Jesus Christ is faithful. Lastly, we are not alone: God, The Spirit dwells in and with us. He teaches, capacitates, enables, reminds, and empowers us. May this year be defined as one (i.e., a year) of incredible faith, devotion, prayer, obedience, unending encounters with God, love, reverence,  remembrance, fellowship, and gratitude.

Have a remarkable year and may the Living God bless you.
